VARDZIA
Vardzia – Monastery complex, carved in a rock, XII-XIII Century Georgian picturesque monument. Located in Javakheti, Aspindza region (30km from Aspindza), on a left bank of river Mtkvari, 1300 meters above sea level. According to orographic outline, Vardzia is located on the east branching of Erusheti ridge. The highest cave is located as high as 1462 meters above sea level.
Vardzia fortress is arranged as storeys, on a level of 100 meters, number of storeys 3 – 13, it includes more than 600 storage facilities, refectories, shacks, pantries, backup storages, 25 wine cellars, with 185 wine-jars in total.

Day 1: Tbilisi – Uplistsikhe – Rabati – Abastumani
⚫ Departure from Tbilisi The tour will start in the morning from Tbilisi. We will travel in comfortable transportation and head to our first destination.
⚫ Uplistsikhe – An Ancient Cave City Uplistsikhe is one of Georgia’s oldest cave cities, founded in the 1st millennium BC. It was a significant trade and cultural center that was destroyed multiple times throughout history but still retains its unique architecture and historical importance.
⚫ Rabati Fortress – A Meeting Point of Civilizations Next, we will head to Akhaltsikhe to visit Rabati Fortress. This historic fortress city was built in the 12th century and combines Georgian, Ottoman, and European architectural elements. Today, Rabati is one of the most popular tourist attractions, featuring museums, churches, mosques, and gardens.
⚫ Abastumani – The City of Stars By the end of the day, we will reach Abastumani – a unique resort known for its healing climate and astrophysical observatory. The fresh mountain air and stunning nature make it the perfect place to relax.
Day 2: Abastumani – Khertvisi Fortress – Vardzia – Vani Caves
⚫ Khertvisi Fortress – A Legacy of Centuries In the morning, we will visit Khertvisi Fortress, one of Georgia’s oldest and strategically important castles. Its history dates back to the 4th century. The fortress overlooks the Mtkvari River and offers breathtaking views.
⚫ Vardzia – A Rock-Cut Monastic Complex Next, we will travel to Vardzia – a unique rock-cut complex from the era of Queen Tamar. Built in the 12th century, Vardzia served as a monastery, royal residence, and defense structure. The complex features unique frescoes, rock-hewn rooms, and tunnels.
⚫ Vani Caves – A Mysterious Monument Our final stop will be Vani Caves – a rock-cut complex consisting of dozens of caves. In the Middle Ages, it served as a monastic center where monks lived and practiced their faith.
